This was Faith on 2/02/08 when animal control went into the backyard of a foreclosed home.  She was unconscious and lying in a puddle of cold water.  The animal control officer who picked her up was in tears at the sight of her.  When she arrived at the veterinary hospital her eyes were rolled back in her head and her heart had stopped.  The staff was able to revive her but the prognosis wasn't good.  She weighed 32 pounds and should have weighed at least 80 pounds.  Suffering from parasites including mange she was on the edge of death.  She developed pneumonia and was critical for many days.  But she is a fighter and managed to survive in spite of her condition.

This is Joe who was found in the same yard as Faith.  Although able to stand in this picture he too was unconscious lying in a puddle of water.  He was in shocking condition also.  Although the neighbors were aware of them being in the backyard with no care, they didn't call animal control until they could hear them moaning in the backyard.  Why they waited that long is a question I ask myself every time I look at these pictures.   Both swollen from Mange their skin was cracked and bleeding, and they had patches of bare skin that was raw and itchy.   I can't even imagine what it was like for them day after day waiting for someone to come and feed them.

Faith and Joe were found in my hometown in Southern California and I felt somehow responsible for them.  I read their story and called Los Angeles Boxer rescue immediately and offered to foster them during their recovery.  Victims of the mortgage crisis, (two among many) they would need long term care.  They spent over two months in the hospital before they could be released to me.  I was shocked at how thin they still were when they got here.  Not only starved they were desperate for attention.
UPDATE 6/24/08
Faith and Joe are ready to be adopted by a special family.  There coats are all grown in, no more mange and the most important thing is they have normal stool for the first time since they were found in February.   They are both on  very good food that has worked a miracle for them.

They look and feel awesome.   Faith is a typical puppy that runs through the building at every opportunity, with wild abandonment.
Joe just shakes his head and follows behind at a more sedate and dignified pace.  Both are very loving and desire all the attention they can get.
Faith and Joe are ready for a home, are you the family that would be ready to make that happen for them.  They will need a big backyard to run and play in.  No small children, Faith is a little unruly.
